REVIEWS of VISTA
“Vista is cool. The impression is one of airiness and openness of quiet contemplation and introversion...
A wide ranging ability to groove and swing...Some very interesting interplay...quiet intriguing. If flute
is your instrument, then you have a real player here, plus a composer/arranger with a definite point of
view and something to say.”
Cadence magazine U.S.A.
“This quintet demonstrates a similar musical sensitivity and strong unity. All voices are entangled, flow
together, only the accents change. Chamber music in jazz, delicate, sometimes almost modern classic, but
above all beautiful.”
Bert Jansma - Haagsche courant
“Vista is a playful and poetic CD full of small surprises and diversity. Uli Glaszmann and Joost Kesselaar
form a superb supple rhythm-tandem.”
Frans van Leeuwen - NRC Handelsblad
“…when somebody can play in such a way, and lose himself in the music like on the CD “Vista”,...it is
simply a pleasure experiencing that as a listener. Each and every one of these compositions is
interesting.”
Hans Dijkstal - Financieel Dagblad
“Juicy, flexible sound on the soprano saxophone. … Miraculous expression on the flute… sensitive, warm,
atmospherical. … Kris Goessens, the pianist, evidently feels delighted… and Andreas Suntrop’s work is
also worth all four stars.”
Luc de Baets- Jazzmozaiek * * * * (Belgium)
“... timeless music... these five musicians are at a top level..”
Rakendra Smit - Muziekwereld
“A beautiful international cooperation. De Mast shows accurate lyrics based on a shining technique and
tone color…intelligent and elegant interplay supported by a perfect recording in studio “Le Roy”.
Rene de Cocq - Stentor dagbladen
“Pieter de Mast loves beauty, perfection and subtlety... magnificent themes and melodies …this CD has
been made by sheer top musicians…the music is highly transparent. They will be playing at he “North sea
Jazz festival” on July 12th. Don’t miss it!”
Henk Aalbers - Gelderlander
“Those who are open to quiet beauty will appreciate this music enormously …beautiful compositions
performed by an excellent band.”
Jo Didderen - Limburgs Dagblad
“Pieter de Mast and his fellow musicians can not be reproached for being musical macho’s. Inspired solos
by all… Listening to this CD is more than worthwhile.”
Rene de Rooy – Fluit
“ ..in a simple and beautiful way de Mast shows how flute and sopranosaxophone can sound.”
Vincent Okker – Rotterdams
Dagblad
“Some of our musicians have an ability to project their personality into music…the music on this CD is
representative of the various facets of Pieter. He is a beautiful flutist with a rich sound …he made a
wise choice in using these four musicians.”
John Ruocco
